Career counselling workshops can play an important role for future planning of students who have completed or in continuation of their 14 years of education. Keeping in view the importance of subject university of Sindh Jamshoro as Community services, through Department of sociology and QEC arranged one day training workshop on 4th January 2016 form 9 am to 2 pm at Lincoln Corner Sir Shahnwaz Bhutto Library Larkana.
Following Four sessions were designed for workshop:
- Confusions & Opportunities regarding Scholarships and Jobs (By. Dr. Ameer Ali Abro) 9. am.
- How to Find Scholarships and Jobs Abroad (By. Maqsood Memon Online from Canada) 10. Am.
- How to Write C.V, Resume and Personal Statement. (By. Mr. Jalil Ahmed Thebo) 12. Noon
- Uses of Internet for Career Planning and Finding Scholarships (By. Ghulam Abass Korejo) 01. pm.
The Workshop started with recitation of Holy Quran and introduction of Speakers with their respective fields by Dr. Ameer Ali Abro.
Dr. Ameer Ali Abro as First Speaker discussed on the problems of students living Sindh and compared them with students living in other provinces of country. He briefly explained the status and Quality of education in Sindh. During his interactive session he explores various confusions regarding scholarships and career planning process faced by students. Role of proper planning, Time Management and scholarship opportunities were his major focus of presentation.
Mr. Maqsood Ahmed Memon from Canada was most important part of the workshop; his session was held online through Skype. He started with his formal, introduction and his achievements through career counseling process and helping students to get scholarship. According to Mr. Memon since 2002 they support large number of Sindhi Students for scholarships. He introduced his career counseling face book page (New Darbelo page) and videos available on it. His Session was formal, informal and highly interactive with all participants. He focused on finding scholarship opportunities abroad. However, he emphasized to prefer china because it is very easy to get scholarship there. Meanwhile he discussed how to enhance skills like C.V writing and Internet surfing.
Moreover he made commitment with students for assisting them in order to find abroad scholarships. He suggested various important websites of international universities and institutions where Masters, Doctorate, degree courses and Non- degree programs are available for Scholarships. In the end of his session he appreciated the efforts of university of Sindh, department of sociology, QEC for arrangement of these sort of workshops. He further shows his willingness for online session with university of Sindh in future.
Mr. Jalil Ahmed Thebo, Lecturer SAZBIST was another important speaker of the workshop, he discussed on “How to Write C.V, Resume and Personal Statement.” He started his presentation by showing different types of C.V formats and Resumes. Than he discussed major mistakes happening during preparation of CV’s by students. Do and don’t while preparation of C.V, resume and personal statement were major points of his presentation. He also discussed on types and formats of covering letter and letter of interest. Mr. Jalil Satisfied the participants during question answer session.
The last facilitator was, Mr. Ghulam Abass Korejo M.Phill Scholar of Sindhi Department and his topic was “How to use internet for career planning”. Mr. Korejo discussed highly important problems faced by students during internet surfing for scholarships and job findings. He covered some basic and important topics in his discussion e.g. The Traditional Job Searching methods, Job Searching Strategies, Types of Online Job Sites, how to Avoid Online Search Mistakes, Creating Resume Online, Online Resume Formats, Make Resume “Cyber-Safe” , Personal Online Resume Websites and Online Job Search Resources. At the end question answer session was very fruitful for students.
Program was ended with speeches of vote of thanks by Dr. Ameer Ali Abro.
